CORBIERES
& MINERVOIS
3
night long weekend wine-tasting break based in Carcassonne

The Languedoc is not only the biggest wine-producing
region in France but it's also the one that has made the most progress
in terms of quality over the past two decades. Gone are the interminable
square kilometres of low quality vines that finished pathetically
as industrial alcohol. Now replaced with top flight syrah and grenache
with lower yields to be assembled with the traditional carignan
to give full-bodied and complex AOC wines.
Whether you prefer the
lighter Minervois crus or the heavier Corbières and Fitou this
wine break gives you a chance to get to know today's leading
producers. Not to mention discovering the region's other AOC vineyards:
Blanquette
de Limoux (chenin and chardonnay), Côtes de Cabardès (sauvignon
franc and cabernet), Côtes de Rousillon and so on.

Hotel in Carcassonne
Our break is based in the ancient city of Carcassonne.
Located in the heart of the mediaeval Citadel of Carcassonne, reached
by crossing the fortress's drawbridge and following winding,
cobbled lanes, the hotel is an authentic mediaeval building the
hotel combining ancient
stone with modern comfort.
The rooms are elegant and refined: exposed stone and
beams or contemporary decoration, with views of the citadel's
battlements
or the shady, interior garden. The hotel occupies 3 houses:
- The Donjon - Comte Roger - Remparts
Room facilities: opening windows, hair dryer, air-conditioning,
radio, satellite TV, minibar, safe, Wi-Fi access.
The break kicks off with a gourmet meal at the hotel's
restaurant (renowned for its Cassoulet ) accompanied by
a selection of local wines.
Next day there's a compulsory stop at the
Comptoir des Vins et Terroirs where you'll get to grips
with a range
of regional wines accompanied by suitable local delicacies. Then
it's off on your own following the hotel's road book and advice
to visit
the vineyards of your choice.
