RAFTING
& CANYONING
in the
CENTRAL PYRENEES
Our
short white water adventure break introduces you to:
* aquatic canyoning - the descent of a canyon
using natural water slides, rappel, swimming and the occasional
jumps from 20 foot waterfalls
into deep pools (these can be circumnavigated on foot). Exhilarating!
* arapaho - a larger-than-life scooter used
to race down the ski slopes and mountain tracks from the
topmost peaks to the village.
Did we
already use the word 'exhilarating'? First in France to exploit this
techology.
* hot-dogging - racing down whitewater torrents
in a two-man canoe. Makes rafting look like a sport for seniors.
All these activities are organized by qualified, professional guides
and instructors who all have the necessary licences.
The
programme:
day 1 : arrival at Pau or Biarritz airport in
southern France, pick up hire car and make for St Lary. Settle
into hotel and take a look around the village.
Overnight in hotel.
day
2 : Breakfast at hotel.
Your instructor will pick you up at the hotel and transfer you to the scene
of the action - le Mont Perdu. The whole day will be spent in the canyon,
swimming and sliding and walking. You should take swimming gear and gym shoes.
The hotel can provide a picnic lunch (payable on site). The guide will provide
helmet, wetsuit and safety gear.

day
3: Breakfast at hotel.
Your mountain guide will pick you up at the hotel for a second day of adventure.
The morning activity is a descent from 'Pla d'Adet', the ski slope above
St Lary, down to the village on 'arapaho'. A sort of large scooter or pedal-less
bike, this machine specially conceived for the mountains, can be used on
grass, tracks or rough ground to go where no mountain bike has ever gone.
And its all downhill.... Arapaho and helmet provided: bring trainers and
suitable clothing.
The afternoon sees another sort of descent: 8 kilometres of whitewater from
the Pont de Bazus to the village of Arreau in a tiny two-place canoe-type
boat, a hot-dog.
Boat, wetsuit, helmet, lifejacket and paddle provided. You'll need trainers,
swimming togs ... and a lot of courage!
Overnight at hotel
day
4 : breakfast at hotel. Depending on flight times
you should have time for a good walk before heading back
to the airport.

wc, hair-dryer, TV and phone. There is a comfortable bar-lounge
area with a welcoming open fire. Also at your disposal: sauna,
