This break is based in St Jean-de-Luz, the smallest and most refined of the three Basque coastal resorts: Biarritz and San Sebastien tending to be flashier and noisier. St Jean is a modest but chic resort, where turn-of-the-century townhouses line the unspoilt seafront rather than impetuous highrises.

The hotel is a striking example of Edwardian seaside architecture (the Duke of Windsor adored the Basque coast) and has been refurbished to the highest standards (4 stars is the top classification in France).

Rooms, with airconditioning and balcony, look out over the ocean to the front or the 'mystical' mountain of the Basques - La Rhune - to the East.
