Les Houches is the largest ski area in
the Chamonix valley with a nice mix of wooded runs and
open piste making it a good all-weather resort.
The village has a truly French atmosphere with little
of the 'international' architecture which has
invaded much of the Alps.
The ski area is fairly low - 1000 to 1900 m in altitude
but as it's right next to Mont Blanc itself there's
usually plenty of snow. Incidentally there's
one
of the best panoramic views of the Mont Blanc Massif from the top lift.
