Not
far from the Medieval town of Sarlat, Montignac is split
into two distinct neighbourhoods
situated
on either side of the Vézère River. On the
right bank, the old feudal market town opens into a maze
of narrow medieval lanes strewn with washing areas, fountains
and half-timbered houses on stilts. In contrast, the left-bank
has preserved its historical character as a trading centre
for merchants, tradesmen and artisans.
