Gruissan is one of the few traditional fishing villages on the
long sweep of sandy beaches from the Rhone delta to the
Spanish border. Based around the Barberousse Tower the
old village clings to a rocky outcrop just above a quiet
lagoon where pink flamingos feed. Two 'other' Gruissans
have sprung up over the century - Gruissan Plage, a strange
collection of wooden chalets on stilts made famous by
the film 'Betty Blue', and the modern 'Gruissan Port',
a new development centred on a boating marina.
France à la
carte has chosen two seaside residences just outside
these three pillars of Gruissan: on the sea edge, among
the pine trees and dunes that line the sea, the village
of appartments and houses of the "Oustal des Mers" and
among the 'canisses' (a sort of mediterranean bamboo)
the 'hamlet' of bungalows that is "Hameau Les
Canisses". The sea is just across the dunes: the
mountainous outcrop of La Clape, clothed in maquis and
vineyards, is the backdrop.

Appartments
in a village residence, all air-conditioned and with
terrace and courtyard. The village is totally pedestrian
and protected from intruders. The appartments are grouped
around a magnificent heated pool: the beach of Gruissan
'Ayguades' is 200 metres away.
All
the flats are air-conditioned and equipped with TV (sat),
fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher, 4 hob stove, coffee-maker
and bathroom. They each have a little garden or private
terrace where meals can be taken.

All
the bungalows are air-conditioned and equipped with mini-safe,
TV (sat), kitchenette with large fridge, microwave, electric
coffee-maker and pottery delph. There is also a covered
terrace with garden furniture. The site has a swimming
pool, a paddling pool and is 150 metres from a long beach
of fine white sand - Gruissan's finest.
