PARIS
- CHÂTEAUX of the LOIRE - BORDEAUX VINEYARDS

Paris:
Participants arrive in Paris and make their own way to our
hotel in the centre. Then two days of Paris at your feet: stroll
the tree-lined boulevards, explore the Latin Quarter and see
all the sights on our panoramic bus tour and Seine River cruise.
After two nights (with breakfast) in Paris we move on to...
The
Châteaux of the Loire: Just
south of Paris the Loire valley is home to dozens of magnificent
castles dating
from the
Renaissance to the 19th century. Your base is the ancient town
of Tours, right among the chateaux where France's
Kings and nobles played, intrigued and
relaxed
with their
courtiers
and extended family and guests. Two full days exploring the renowned
castles of Chambord, Chenonceaux and Blois among others.
Two nights in Tours before heading for ...
Bordeaux:
The city is now a UNESCO heritage site and worth visiting for
this fact alone. You are based in the historic centre where
you can explore Bordeaux's rich past as wine capital of the
world on foot. And then there are the vineyards where even
the village names conjure
up visions
of
the great
wines
as
we take you on a tour of the famous vineyards
- Margaux, St Julien, St Emilion, Pauillac - and all within
30 kms of
Bordeaux. After two days and two nights in Bordeaux return
to Paris by high-speed TGV train.
PARIS - PROVENCE - LANGUEDOC
Paris:
Participants meet up in Paris for two days of sightseeing
and shopping, as above. Transfer to Avignon, in Provence.
Provence:
This is the area at the foot of the Rhone valley; the
Mediterranean hinterland endowed with a special luminosity
much beloved by painters, a broken topography of rocky
outcrops, olive groves and vines and the home of what many
consider to
be the ultimate Mediterranean cuisine. Your base - for 2
days and 2 nights - is the Papal City of Avignon from where
we shall visit Aix-en-Provence and the out-lying villages and
lavender fields of the region.

Languedoc: South
and West of Provence this region abounds in stunning Roman
architectural gems: the amphitheatres at Nimes and Orange and
the Pont du Gard among them. After touching the Mediterranean
coast at the fishing port of Sète we head for Carcassonne where
its thirteenth century citadel will be our base for the next
two days. One day can be spent exploring the citadel and its
keep while another is appropriated for a tour of the Cathar
Castles - refuges of 13th century heretics escaping the Inquisition
- in the wild hinterland of the Corbières. This trip will give
us a chance to do a spot of wine-tasting too.
After
2 nights in Carcassonne the tour ends with participants returning
to Paris by TGV.
