Cathar
Citadels - This new tour opens up a 13th century
can of worms – the Cathar sect, their life and times
and final persecution at the hands of the Inquisition.
This pious and peaceful movement had many followers in
the Languedoc but were deemed a threat to the established
church – and to the French throne - and so were hounded
mercilessly by Simon de Montfort and the Albigensian crusade
into seeking refuge in some of the most dramatic and spectacular
chateaux in the South of France. Our tour traces the flight
of these dissidents in the stunning landscape of the Corbières
and Pyrenees, from Carcassonne to Queribus to Montségur.
