Day 1 – Bordeaux, Saint-Emilion, Sarlat

Meet  with your driver guide at Bordeaux airport or train-station and transfer to Sarlat.
On the way to Sarlat, stop in Saint Emilion. The village is now a UNESCO World Heritage site and is one of the centres of Bordeaux wine-making.
Wine tasting at Château Franc Mayne Grand Cru Classe in St Emilion Appellation.
Transfer to Sarlat, settle into your hotel. Overnight.


Day 2 – Sarlat, Beynac-et-Cazenac, Domme

In the morning, a guided walking tour of historic Sarlat, rich merchant town of the 18th century. Capital of Black Périgord, exceptionally well-preserved city. More than 1.000 years of architecture live in its lanes, roof-tiles and stone walls.The exceptional number of buildings registered or classified as historical monuments makes Sarlat one of the most important European cities in terms of cultural heritage.
On saturdays, your guide will lead you through the famous and very traditional market.

This afternoon your guide will drive you to the beautiful village of Beynac-et-Cazenac. Then he will lead you to the small village of Domme for a walking tour. This true medieval bastide is entered through a gateway flanked by stout limestone towers. You will enjoy a boat ride on the Dordogne on board of an authentic Gabarre river boat, along the Dordogne river in La Roque Gageac.
Back to Sarlat for overnight.


Day 3 – Lascaux II, Les Eyzies, Rouffignac

This morning, visit of Les Eyzies, world capital of prehistory listed among the 400 sites of the World Heritage of Mankind by UNESCO. Le Musée national d’Archéologie des Eyzies, houses the most important paleolithic collection in France.
Your guide will then drive you to Rouffignac, immense cavern comprising 8 kms of galleries occupied by bears for a long time and one can still see traces of their presence. Paintings of wooly mammoths and other animals.
You will end the day with a visit of Lascaux II a perfect reproduction of the main cave created some 15,000 years BC.

Back to Sarlat for overnight.


Day 4 – Day at leisure in Sarlat

Day 5 – Departure

.Transfer to Bordeaux airport or train-station.
We suggest an optional visit of Bordeaux, depending on the timing of your flight or train. From the vestiges of the Middle Ages to the elegance of 18th century, you will discover the different golden ages of Bordeaux's history, dominated by the wine trade and various colonial influences.

 

Optional day in Pech Merle, St Cirq Lapopie and Cahors

This optional day is organised on a scheduled tour. You will be sharing this tour with other participants (8 maximum).

Visit of the authentic cave paintings of Pech Merle.
Route to St. Cirq Lapopie, one of the “Most Beautiful Villages of France” the cliff-side village, perched high above the south bank of the Lot. Free time for personal discovery.
In the afternoon, transfer to Cahors, famous for possessing one of the only remaining medieval military bridges of Europe, the “Pont Valentré” a fortified bridge listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
