At only 25 kms from the Spanish border, Collioure is the jewel of the 'Côte Vermeille', the rocky coastline where the Pyrenees meet the Mediterranean. Already a haunt for painters at the turn of the last century, Collioure remains a favourite site for budding artists looking to recapture the magic of Matisse, Derain and other 'fauvists' who enjoyed the sea and light so particular to this coastline.

Using Collioure as a base one can easily reach other 'artistic' destinations: the modern art museum at Ceret with its Picassos and Braques, the Dali museum at Figueras, just over the border in Spain and Dali's home village, Cadaquès, further along the coast.

Our package includes a hotel base and a hire car with which to explore the coast from Collioure to Port Vendres - a fishing village further along the coast: you will discover the rugged hillsides covered in vines, ruined forts and crumbling châteaux, all against the magnificent backdrop of the blue mediterranean.

Our suggested programme:
Day 1
Arrival at Perpignan or Girona airport: pick up your hire car and head for Collioure. Settle into your hotel and explore the narrow streets and fishing port of the village. Dine in one of the numerous little restaurants around the port and appreciate the local delicacies.
Overnight in hotel.

Day 2:
Breakfast in the hotel
The wine route along the coast from Collioure to Banyuls. The red wines of Collioure soon give way to the heavy fortified wines of Banyuls, golden amber in coulour, powerfully scented of maquis and figs. one of the few wines in the world that can be drunk with chocolate! Visit the 'Grande Cave du Celliers des Templiers' in Banyuls. After lunch on the coast you could head inland to the cherry orchards of Ceret and the Modern Art Museum in that village where the Braques and Picassos are worth the visit.
Overnight in hotel in Collioure.

Day 3:
Breakfast at hotel
Why not take the little train from Collioure to Port Vendre and enjoy the scenery. A relaxing way to end your short break. Or go up the coast to Argeles and Baccarès for a spot of kite-surfing ... and a feed of fresh mussels.
Departure for the airport.
